That’s because no one taught you to speak English properly. “Uh huh” is a rude and dismissive expression and if you family members spoke to you that way it was unfortunate. We should not encourage anyone to think that is normal and acceptable speech.

- siri responseI noticed recently that Hey Siri is answered by Huh or Uhuh. When and why did this happen and how can I change it? It is so disrespectful. It's hard enough in the real world to get a respectful answer. I don't really want to be responded to by a voice that sounds like a sullen teenager. Currently my iPad does this. My iPhone does not, just flashes a visual signal when Siri is listening. 22296

I agree! I imagine a socially crippled, snot-nosed software engineer who hasn’t had a date in years came up with that bad idea. Why can’t Siri be more like “Janet” in “The Good Place”? Polite, attentive and slightly formal like a really smart waitress in a very nice restaurant?

OK, I called Apple and they did not know about this issue, cant believe no one has called before me, however they had NO clue how to address it, so Tech told me to post to the following web site and the developers would see it and address it. yea right :)

Ever since i moved to the iPhone 11I have had all kinds of issues with Siri.
Her attitude, not completing the easiest of commands and Siri says “Uh huh” instead of yes.
It's really annoying, rude and in extremely disrespectful.
Come on Apple this is unacceptable!

i find the uh huh response annoying as well. I switched from the American voices to the British and Australian and got the same response. I hope Apple returns to a “yes” response.
Then you should tell them you'd like to see that:
Product Feedback - Apple
Meanwhile, you can avoid hearing "uh huh" if you don't pause between "Hey, Siri....." and the rest of your question.

I get creeps from Siri's (way too personal) 'Uh-huh?' and her 'Mm-hmm?'
It's like I just say "Hey Siri" and she's suddenly lounging across my lap like a cat, eyes closed, with a knowing smile, answering me with a tone both fawning and judgy (like she thinks I can't set a reminder without her), "Uh-huh?"

I spent an hour and forty five minutes on chat with Apple care. They had me reset my phone and that didn’t work. For the first 30 minutes of the chat, the tech thought that Siri didn’t understand me. Ugh. They are useless. I have an appointment for their “engineer“ to call me tomorrow.

Sorry you got roped into this response that was meant for another person which I’m sure you’re aware of since you didn’t post any of the questions I was responding too.
Thank you for posting links in this support chat!! It’s what it’s made for in my opinion.
FYI “finding a response that doesn’t annoy or offend anyone” is by method the goal, although in many cases unachievable the method brings us as close as we can come. So the least amount of unhappy customers is what is meant but the goal is to have 0 unhappy customers if possible.

I meant to write the same thing the other day but was traveling. I too called, the woman laughed and suggested I change the voice. I did and no such luck. I called again as was them called back by an engineer. He had me do a full reset and nothing. I called again and they told me Apple knows about the problem and should be offering a bug fix in a future update. So annoying!

I like when Siri say uhhuh please put it back for the people that want it. I think it is the best thing ever that a phone answers like a real person. I got so many compliments when I showed it to people

Everyone should have a right to use uhhuh if they want to. I like uhhuh and I want apple to please tell me how to put it back on my phone. I paid cash for my phone and it wasn’t a free upgrade. I paid a lot for my phone and deserve to have it if I want. I think apple was a genius to think of it.

When I stopped by the Sprint Store, we got a good laugh, but when one of the supervisors walked by and we demonstrated it for her, she responded with "That's rude!" After X1 with Sprint Techs and X4 with Apple Techs, 1 online and 2 phone and 1 Apple Store appointment...It's the software. Ughhh. I told them I get them from my husband, I didn't pay all that money to hear that attitude from my phone.

My problem with “uh huh” is that you can’t hear it as well as “yes”. I call Siri a lot when I’m trying to find my phone!
Uh-huh. 😉
Seems easier to ask “Hey Siri, where’s my iPhone?”
It’ll light up and turn on the locator chime, if it’s in voice range.
