What Does the Saatva Mattress Feel Like?

If you’re a side sleeper who needs to feel extra cushion around your joints, the Plush Soft version of the Saatva Classic might work best for you. However, the Plush Soft model isn’t the softest mattress compared to other brands on the market. You should still feel ample support around your hips and shoulders. The Luxury Firm version of the Saatva Classic is the “middle of the road” level of firmness, and it’s also the most popular version. If you like a firm mattress but still want to be cradled in the comfort layers, this is your bed. Stomach and back sleepers do well on this medium-firm mattress.

Back Sleepers

The Saatva is an excellent mattress for back sleepers thanks to the balance of reinforced lumbar support, a lightly conforming pillow top, and a supportive double coil system. The lumbar support keeps the body’s heavier core from sinking in too far, while the top foam layer paired with durable support coils keeps the spine’s natural “S” curve.

We recommend the Luxury Firm and Firm versions of the Saatva Classic for lightweight and average-weight back sleepers. Heavyweight back sleepers should choose the Firm model, as it offers a bit more support.

Side Sleepers

Side sleepers need a bed that offers generous contouring—cradling around pressure points—to avoid pain in the shoulders or the hips. When we put the Saatva Classic to the Mattress Nerd lab test, there were some areas of high pressure at the hips and shoulders. However, it’s important to note that we tested the Luxury Firm model. The softer model is likely to provide better pressure relief.

We recommend the Plush Soft version for lightweight and average-weight side sleepers. However, some side sleepers who weigh less than 130 lbs may be better served by a mattress with more generous foam layers, like a soft memory foam mattress.

Stomach Sleepers

When you sleep on your stomach, the biggest challenge is finding a mattress that keeps your hips from dipping in too far, knocking the spine out of alignment. The Saatva Classic’s two-layer coil support system and reinforced lumbar support does an amazing job supporting healthy body alignment when stomach sleeping.

The right firmness level for stomach sleepers is likely to be either the Luxury Firm or Firm model. The Luxury Firm adds a touch of softness that lightweight people need for comfort, while the Firm provides the durability and support required by heavyweightpeople. However, some plus-size sleepers may find the fairly soft top foam layers insufficiently supportive. Average-weight people are well supported on either the Luxury Firm or Firm option.

Motion Isolation: Is it good for those who share a bed?

Motion isolation is one of the most important factors influencing how deeply you and your partner sleep. If either of you is a light sleeper (or someone who shimmies and shakes all night long), you need a mattress that minimizes motion transfer.The Saatva Classic does a decent job at absorbing motion, but with two coil layers, it’s not the best hybrid mattress for light sleepers.

Noise

Layer #1—Euro Top with Organic Cotton Cover (3”):The Saatva’s organic cotton cover is quilted with a thick layer of pressure-relieving foam. The firmness of the foam accounts for the difference in feel among the three models. Also, the Euro pillow top is coated with Guardin®, a plant-based antimicrobial substance designed to block bacterial growth.

Layer #2—Memory Foam Lumbar Support:A layer of durable, slow-response memory foam brings added contouring and support to the region beneath your hips and spine.

Layer #3—Pocketed Coil Transition Layer:Individually encased coils deliver targeted support and pressure relief, providing contouring without the heat retention that comes from all-foam mattresses. These pocketed coils move independently from one another, minimizing motion transfer. The Queen size mattress incorporates 884 coils in this layer.

Layer #4—Active Wire Lumbar Support:This is another layer designed to reinforce the middle of the mattress, where the body’s heavy core is situated. The extra support especially helps stomach sleepers and heavy people to maintain healthy spine alignment.

How Do the Policies Measure Up?

Shipping & Unboxing

Though Saatva operates a showroom out of New York City, the company is primarily an online mattress brand. We don’t classify Saatva as a bed-in-a-box mattress company because the brand doesn’t compress its beds and ship them in boxes. Instead, Saatva offers a free white glove delivery service.

With white glove delivery, a team of delivery professionals will install your new mattress and remove an old mattress for free. Since there’s no unboxing or decompression, the off-gassing chemical smells are minimal, so you can typically sleep on your new bed the same day it arrives.

Warranty

The Saatva Classic mattress comes with a Lifetime warranty. If the mattress is deemed defective or shows excessive sagging in the first two years, Saatva will replace it for free.

How Long Does Saatva’s Warranty Period Last?

For all Saatva mattresses, with the exception of the Saatva Solaire, Saatva will replace your mattress with a brand new one if it is deemed defective during the first two years following the delivery date. From year three until the end of the warranty, Saatva will completely repair and re-cover your mattress for only a transportation fee of $99 each way. The new mattress is delivered at the same time your original is picked up.

For the Solaire, Saatva will professionally repair a defective airbed at no cost to you during the first five years following the delivery date. After year five, labor costs are covered, but you’ll be required to pay shipping and between 50–90 percent of the cost of parts.

Fairness Replacement Option

All Saatva warranties come with aFairness Replacement Option, which is designed to eliminate conflict and hassle between Saatva and its customers. TheFairness Replacement Optionsays that if your bed is deemed defective after a certain period of time, you get to keep youroriginal mattressand Saatva will deliver and install a brandnew mattressfor:

• 40 percent of theoriginal pricein years three to five
• 60 percent of theoriginal pricein years six to 10
• 80 percent of theoriginal pricein years 11 to 15

How Does the Saatva Warranty Measure Up?

Saatva outpaces the average warranty coverage period in the mattress industry—typically 10 years—by a lot. In our opinion, long warranty periods show that amattress companyis confident in the quality and durability of its products.

Whilethe Saatvawarranties are all longer than average, most people only keep their mattresses for up to a decade. In our opinion, therefore, it’s more important to consider the terms of the warranty than its length.

Saatva claims its warranties are the “friendliest, clearest, and strongest” in the industry, and we mostly agree. Saatva earns points for charging its customers nothing for replacements during the first few years. It’s also a plus that the only charge to customers is atransportation feeof $198 ($99 each way) if the mattress is repaired and re-covered during the later years of the warranty.

We do wish that Saatva was clearer about which specific defects are covered under warranty. Instead, they opt to determine coverage on a case-by-case basis.

Filing A Warranty Claim with Saatva

To file a warranty claim with Saatva, you must notifyThe Saatva Company. Saatva makes filing a claim simple with the following options.

• Call Saatva’s Customer Care Service—Call 1-877-672-2882 to contact Saatva’s customer service team, which is available 24/7.
• Go Online—Email the customer service team at info@saatvamattress.com to let them know you’d like to file a warranty claim.

Trial Period & Returns

After the mattress is delivered, Saatva offers a 365-night sleep trial period. If you don’t like the bed, you can return it for a full refund of the mattress price minus a $99 transportation fee. While most online mattress brands do not charge return fees, we believe Saatva’s fee is still competitive because they offer free mattress delivery and setup—a $199+ value.

How Do I Return a Saatva Mattress?

To return aSaatva mattress:

1. Contact Saatva—You can initiate a mattress return by contacting Saatva at (877) 672-2882. The customer care team will need your original order number and a reason for the return.
2. Schedule MattressPickup—Saatva’s delivery team will email you within one week of contacting customer service to schedule apickupday and time. Availablepickuptimes vary by region.
3. Be Present atPickup—You’ll need to be home for the mattresspickup, but don’t worry about repackaging the mattress: The Saatva team will take care of mattress removal.
4. Wait for Your Refund—Once the mattress has been returned to the warehouse, Saatva will process your return. You should see funds released to your bank account within 10–12 days. Keep in mind that the $99 returntransportation feewill be deducted from the overall refund.

Addressing Saatva Classic Mattress Complaints

• Not Enough Pressure Relief: The Saatva Classic didn’t perform exceptionally well in our pressure relief test. Strict side sleepers with pain in their hips or shoulders may prefer a mattress that provides more cushioning along the top of the mattress.
• Motion Transfer: Coils transfer motion to a greater extent than foam. As the Saatva contains two coil layers, it doesn’t isolate motion to the extent that some couples prefer.

Saatva Classic vs. Saatva Latex Hybrid

The Saatva Latex Hybrid is an all-natural mattress with a medium-firm feel. Its firmness falls between that of the Classic’s Luxury Firm and Firm models. Because the Classic comes in a softer feel, it’s better for side sleepers and lightweight people.

Both mattresses have zoned support that’s excellent for heavy people, stomach sleepers, and those with back pain. The Latex Hybrid sleeps even cooler than the Classic.
