  • For a twist on tradition, save 30p on Sainsbury’s double Gloucester cheese and chive, now only £1.50.
  • Get two for £4 on Waitrose Yorkshire mild Wensleydale with mango and ginger or £2.75 each.
  • Save £2 per kilo on Belton Farm Red Fox Vintage red Leicester from Morrisons deli counter, now £8 per kilo.

Broccoli and Stilton soup

(Serves six)

YOU NEED:

  • 25g butter
  • Small onion, diced
  • 450g broccoli
  • 500ml vegetable stock
  • 100g Stilton
  • 150ml single cream

METHOD:

  • Melt the butter in a large saucepan, add the onion and cook gently for five minutes.
  • Finely chop the broccoli florets and stems, keeping a few florets unchopped, to decorate.
  • Add all the broccoli to the onion, plus the stock, and bring to the boil for five minutes.
  • Remove the broccoli florets for garnish, then blend the rest with the stock until very finely chopped.
  • Crumble the Stilton, making sure you keep a few crumbs to garnish the soup.
  • Add the Stilton to the soup and whizz briefly. Stir in the cream and heat gently, but do not boil.
  • Before serving, season to taste. Then pour into bowls and garnish each bowl with broccoli florets and a few crumbs of Stilton.

Blackberry bakewell cake

(Serves eight)

YOU NEED:

  • 150g unsalted butter
  • 150g caster sugar
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 1 tsp almond extract
  • 100g ground almonds
  • 80g self-raising flour
  • 200g blackberries
  • 30g flaked almonds
  • 2 tbsp demerara sugar

METHOD:

  • Preheat the oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4. Grease and line a 20cm round loose-based cake tin with baking parchment.
  • In a bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until fluffy. Add the eggs, almond extract, ground almonds and flour and mix well.
  • Spread the mixture evenly in the prepared tin. Scatter blackberries over the top then sprinkle over the flaked almonds and demerara sugar.
  • Bake in the oven for an hour or until a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean.
